Smidt, the adopted son of late production designer and director Burr Smidt and producer Renee Valente, served as second assistant director on shows including "The Scarecrow and Mrs. King," "Glory Years," "Addicted to His Love," miniseries "Around the World in 80 Days," "False Witness" and "For Their Own Good."
He is survived by his mother and two sisters.
