Based on a short story by "Middlesex" author Jeffrey Eugenides, the comedy centers on a 40-year-old unmarried woman who decides to become pregnant by inseminating herself using a turkey baster and sperm from a married friend. Allan Loeb ("Things We Lost in the Fire") penned the screenplay.
"We were so attracted to this project because of Allen's script," Speck said. "Because he works in every genre -- comedy, drama -- he really understands character arcs."
"Little Miss Sunshine's" Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa are producing the project, to which the Farrelly brothers were originally attached to direct. Steven Pearl co-produces.
Gordon and Speck's credits include the ABC series "Cavemen," which bows Oct. 2.
