Arab TV execs eye Kuwait situation

Marriage serial 'Sins' to air

BAGHDAD -- Arab TV execs will be closely watching developments in Kuwait, where Shiite Muslims have taken exception to a TV serial due to air on Dubai-based MBC, Al-Arabiya's sister channel.

The Kuwaiti-produced serial, titled "Sins Have a Price," highlights a form of marriage, known as "temporary marriage," particular to Shiite Islam under which a man and a woman may wed for any period of time from just an hour to 99 years.

With religious sensibilities offended once news of the intention to air the serial spread, crowds promptly stoned the Kuwait offices of MBC and for good measure, those of Al-Arabiya.
