HONG KONG -- Taiwan's Bureau of Investigation, Ministry of Justice (MJIB) Thursday day raided the Taipei-based peer-to-peer website Hip2p.com, believed to be operating as a pirate distributor of movies online.

Raid is the second of its kind in a week. The Justice ministry previously raided offices of Kupeer.com and made arrests in both instances. Kupeer was taken offline shortly after.

Both raids made use of the territory's recently strengthened copyright law.

Amended in June along similar lines to the U.S. after the Grokster case, law now makes it illegal to induce others to indulge in copyright infringement

"The changes in the law have definitely made our job much easier," said MJIB investigator Hsiao Chih-Chung. "When we go after pirate P2P websites it is good to know that the law is on our side. �We will continue to target these illegal websites until they are all taken down."

"The amendments to the copyright law ensure that website operators who induce others to indulge in piracy are accountable for their actions," said Mike Ellis, senior VP and regional director, Asia-Pacific for the Motion Picture Assn.
