Rick McKay to direct Fay Wray film

Actress the subject of new documentary

The top of the Empire State building just got a little more crowded with the arrival of a King Kong-related doc -- "Fay Wray: A Life," directed by Rick McKay, helmer of "Broadway: The Golden Age."

The film follows the friendship between the actress, who died in 2004, and McKay. It will feature Peter Jackson and Naomi Watts.

Jackson and Watts met with Wray before Jackson remade "King Kong," with Watts reprising Wray's role. Footage of their conversation is included in the documentary.

The doc goes into post-production in March at Jackson's Kiwi studio in anticipation of a release next year. New York's Film Forum will celebrate Wray's 100th birthday Sept. 18 with a program that includes Erich von Stroheim's 1928 film "The Wedding March" and footage from McKay's documentary. Wray's daughter Susan Riskin will be in attendance.
