WE TV puts the fear into Saturdays

Network adds 'Ghost Stories' to schedule

WE TV is upping its fear quotient on Saturday nights, buying series "Extreme Ghost Stories" and "Rescue Mediums" to run in a three-hour block with "John Edward Cross Country."

The Edward series scored solid ratings for WE last season, with its premiere setting an original-series record for the net.

Edward's company Jeco is producing 12 hourlong episodes of "Cross Country" in its second season.

WE has bought 37 half-hours of the Canadian series "Rescue Mediums," following two female psychics who explore unusual occurrences, and four hours of "Extreme Ghost Stories," from ITV Prods., which re-enacts celebrated sightings from the spirit world.

For January, WE has bought "Alien Abductions: True Confessions," six half-hours focusing on women who claim to have had intimate encounters with extraterrestials aboard their spaceships.

Four one-hour primetime specials will play on WE in October: "Haunted," "Secret World of Close Encounters," "Ultimate Ten Unexplained Mysteries" and "The Uninvited."

"Abducted by UFOs," a two-hour special from Turner Originals Prods., will run in November.
