'High School Musical 2' a hit in Asia

Disney hit scores top marks in premiere

'High School Musical 2'
Airing for the first time outside the U.S., 'High School Musical 2' broke Disney Channel records in Singapore and Malaysia.

The social phenomenon that is "High School Musical 2" scored highly in its preem in Southeast Asia -- the first region outside North America to air the show.

In Singapore and Malaysia, the premiere was the most-watched show and delivered the best-ever results for a Disney Channel original telepic, according to the Mouse House. It defeated all other free and pay TV channels in the young demos in both markets, according to Disney.

In Malaysia, where it screened in English and Bahasa Malaysia-language versions, "High School Musical 2" was the top show among Astro pay TV kid auds, achieving an 11.03 rating and a 26.6% share of kids 6- to 14-years-old in subscription TV households.

Tuner topped its timeslot in Hong Kong, beating the offerings on all other pay channels in the territory.
