British indie awards move venue
BIFA set for Nov. 28
The BIFAs’ previous home, West London’s Hammersmith Palais, closed in April and is due to be demolished. Kudofest founder Elliot Grove said the event had been mulling a move to a bigger venue for a few years.
“The Palais accommodated 550 seated guests; the Roundhouse seats 850, and the 10th anniversary of the awards will be an altogether bigger and more glamorous affair,” he said.
Daily Variety will again sponsor its U.K. Film Achievement Award at the bash. Previous winners include Helen Mirren and Keira Knightley.
The Roundhouse was a countercultural landmark in 1960s London, hosting the UFO Club and acts including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, the Doors and the Rolling Stones. It shuttered between 1983 and 2006 but has quickly become one of London’s premier arts venues.
