IFC nabs first Toronto buy with 'Jar'

Company picks up rights to Icelandic thriller

IFC announced the first official buy at the Toronto Film Festival on Friday, nabbing North American rights to Icelandic thriller "Jar City."

The pic, which won top honors at Karlovy Vary in July and is the top native grosser in Iceland's history, will be distributed via the company's First Take initiative.

After positive word out of Karlovy Vary, the pic hit the broader radar in Telluride. Helmer Baltasar Kormakur is known for "101 Reykjavik."
