MTV, MySpace team on 'Love'

Reality show offers date with Tila Tequila

MTV is courting the MySpace demo.

Net has greenlit "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila," a reality-dating show featuring the titular star, whose MySpace profile is touted as having the most friends in the history of MySpace.

Show is set up in the manner of "The Bachelor": about 30 contestants will move into a house and be put through a set of competitions in a bid to win Tequila's affections. The star will make eliminations at the end of every episode.

Further hook is that Tequila, who is described as bisexual, will be choosing among men and women; contestants will be split evenly between straight men and gay women.

495 Productions and MTV are producing, with Sally Ann Salsano exec producing and Joel Zimmer co-exec producing.

Weekly skein will bow Oct. 9 in the 10 p.m. slot. Net has ordered 10 episodes of the half hour.

Attempt to tap into popularity of MySpace fits with net's current mission; MTV has been trying to capture the elusive demographic through a series of elaborate websites for shows like "Laguna Beach."

Greenlight also continues a trend for MTV under programming topper Tony DiSanto of trying to shake up the net's formula. MTV has aired a number of standalone daily dating shows such as "Next" and "Parental Control" but has never aired a weekly serialized skein.
