Producer buys the Chicago Fire

Hauptman purchases pro soccer team

Hollywood producer Andrew Hauptman has bought the Chicago Fire pro soccer team from Philip Anschutz' AEG sports entertainment empire.

Hauptman announced the deal Thursday through his Andell Holdings private investment firm. Purchase price was not disclosed.

Timothy J. Leiweke, president and CEO of AEG, said the company decided to sell the Fire to reduce the number of teams operated by AEG - which still controls the Los Angeles Galaxy and Metrostars teams.

Hauptman's a producer on "Lions for Lambs" and recently signed a deal with the NFL to produce a Vince Lombardi biopic.
