Duo added to Stratford Festival

Dennehy, Callow join 2008 season

Brian Dennehy and Simon Callow will join the Stratford Festival for the 2008 season.

Dennehy will appear as the King in Shakespeare's "All's Well That Ends Well," as well as in a double bill of "Krapp's Last Tape" by Samuel Beckett and "Hughie" by Eugene O'Neill. In 2004, Dennehy performed the O'Neill piece to great acclaim at the Goodman Theatre.

Callow has been commissioned by the Festival to prepare a piece based on Shakespeare's sonnets for the 2008 season. As yet untitled, it will be directed by one of the Festival's former Artistic Directors, Michael Langham.

Also announced was a special project called "Her Infinite Variety," to be created by Peter Hinton, Artistic Director of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

It will be presented in an outdoor space on parkland near the Festival Theatre and will "celebrate the women in Shakespeare's plays" through "history, sword-fights, songs and scenes."

Stratford's 2008 season is the first under the leadership of a triumvirate of artistic directors, including Broadway vet Des McAnuff ("Jersey Boys").
