The partners will work on 12 projects together over the next two years, starting with Stephen Prentice’s comedy horror script "The Tormented" and Hitchcockian teen thriller "Shadows" by Ed Wiles.
Slingshot will handle the theatrical release through its own distribution arm, with the BBC taking TV rights.
Arvind Ethan David, CEO of Slingshot, commented, "This deal enhances our resources and reach: it gives our talent and projects the guarantee of a broadcast platform; and it allows us access to the extraordinary scale and scope of the BBC."
BBC Films head David Thompson said, "We are really focused at the moment on trying to break the mold in low-budget filmmaking and Slingshot have a really brilliant take on how to do this — from early development right through to production. The process of filmmaking is in some respects still stuck in the dark ages in Britain, and this is one way of helping to try to do something different."
Slingshot, which is based at Ealing Studios in West London, was founded by David two years ago. It just released its first feature, "Sugarhouse," and has its second, "French Film," in post-production. The third Slingshot title, "Faintheart," starts shooting in October.
