O'Neill accepting submissions

Deadline Oct. 15 for Playwrights conference

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Conn., is accepting submissions for the summer 2008 sessions of its developmental programs for plays and musicals.

Org is one of the last in the country to consider scripts from writers without professional representation. National Playwrights Conference is famous for nurturing the careers of major scribes such as the late August Wilson, and seven recent O'Neill alums will be preemed this season in full productions, including Adam Bock's "The Receptionist" at Manhattan Theater Club and Rebecca Gilman's "The Crowd You're In With" at the Magic Theater in San Francisco.

"In the Heights," the Off Broadway tuner that will make the jump to the Rialto later this season, was developed as part of the tuner program.

Submissions for the playwrights conference will be accepted Sept. 17-Oct. 15, and National Music Theater Conference candidates from Sept. 1-Dec. 1.
