EFA selects 11 for People's Choice

'Scotland,' 'Perfume' among nominees

BERLIN — "The Last King of Scotland" and "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" are among 11 films nominated by the European Film Academy for this year's People's Choice Award.

Also nominated were Stephen Frears' "The Queen," July Delpy's "2 Days in Paris," Corneliu Porumboiu's "12:08 East of Bucharest," Agustin Diaz Yanes' "Alatriste," Paul Verhoeven's "Black Book," Jiri Menzel's "I Served the King of England," "La Vie en rose" by Olivier Dahan, Giuseppe Tornatore's "La Sconosciuta" and Joachim Trier's "Reprise."

Past winners have included such films as Pedro Almodovar's "Volver," Wolfgang Becker's "Good Bye, Lenin," Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Amelie," Benigni's "Life Is Beautiful" and Peter Cattaneo's "The Full Monty."

"As part of the European Film Awards, the People's Choice Award sheds a special spotlight on the people the films are made for — the audience," the academy said.

The public vote for the People's Choice Award begins Sept. 1 and closes on Oct. 31. Film fans can vote through the official voting website at www.peopleschoiceaward.org.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 1 at the 20th European Film Awards in Berlin.
