Pusan gets ready for 'Assembly'

Int'l fest to open with epic Chinese war film

SEOUL - The Pusan Film Festival will open with the world premiere of Feng Xiaogang’s epic Chinese war movie “Assembly” on Oct. 4 and end with the international preem of Japanese anime “Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone” on Oct. 12.

“Assembly,” from the director of “The Banquet” and “A World Without Thieves,” centers on a captain during the Chinese civil war who struggles to restore honor to the 46 men in his company who sacrificed their lives.

Pic was co-produced by China’s Huayi Brothers and Korea’s MK Pictures. “Evangelion” is based on the cult TV series “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” which also spawned a 1997 feature of the same name. New feature by animators Hideaki Anno, Kazuya Tsurumaki and Masayuki provides a new ending and interpretation to the story. Pic, which will be the first part of a trilogy, will be released Saturdayin Japan.
