Fortissimo picks up 'Berlin'

Lou Reed pic to preem in Venice

LONDON — Fortissimo Films has picked up international sales rights to the Lou Reed concert movie “Berlin,” directed by Julian Schnabel.

The movie will premiere at the Venice film festival, which starts this week, before bowing in North America at the Toronto fest.

Reed recorded the concept album “Berlin” in 1973. It was a commercial failure, but has since come to be regarded as his “lost” masterpiece. He performed it live for the first time last December at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn. Schnabel designed the sets, and recorded the performance over five nights.

Reed is currently touring the “Berlin” show around the world.
