"New Zealand Idol" star Dominic Bowden will host.
Much like its superstar sister show "American Idol," "Band" gives unsigned and undiscovered groups a chance to shine -- or humiliate themselves -- via a nationwide search. The battle-of-the-bands format will continue until a winner is chosen. Best band will receive a contract with 19 Recordings.
The series will premiere Oct. 19 on Fox and will air on Fridays at 8 p.m.
Rzeznik began his career in the music business two decades ago when the Goo Goo Dolls were first signed to Celluloid Records. The band later moved to WB, where the rockers achieved commercial success in the 1990s, selling 10 million discs and nabbing over a dozen top-10 hits.
In addition to her time with Prince, Sheila E. performed with Herbie Hancock, Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross before scoring her own hits "The Glamorous Life" and "Love Bizarre."
Dickson got his start as an exec for Creation Records, where he elevated groups such as Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and Oasis. After a move to Sony, he became the press agent of acts such as LL Cool J and Midnight Oil.
"The Next Great American Band" is produced by 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia North America, the same team behind "American Idol." Simon Fuller, Nigel Lythgoe, Ken Warwick and Cecile Frot-Coutaz will exec produce.
