Rialto's 'Grease' toots its own horn

Advertisement get creative with critics' quotes

The new Rialto revival of "Grease" wasn't exactly the one critics wanted -- reviews were largely downbeat -- but that didn't stop producers and advertisers from getting creative.

In an ad for "Grease" that ran Aug. 22 in the New York Post, the exclamation "The One That I Want!" is repeated several times, each quotation attributed to a different publication (the Post, the Daily News, Entertainment Weekly, New York Magazine, the New Yorker and the Associated Press).

The words "the one that I want," of course, were the part of the title of TV casting competish "Grease: You're the One That I Want," the NBC skein that cast the show's two leads. That title was certainly mentioned in reviews and features about the show -- but was by no means indicative of endorsement.

Many legiters giggled at the audacity, but critics were miffed. The ad reportedly won't run again.
