Since the five-a-week "Lately" premiered July 16, the show has chalked up an average of 448,000 total viewers, a 16% jump over the time period a year ago. Drawn by Handler's goofy sex appeal, men have pushed these increases the most. The time period is up 41% in males 25-54 and 24% in men 18-49 year to year.
Lisa Berger, exec VP of programming development for E!, cited Handler's "unique sense of humor and fresh take on pop culture" as two reasons for the show's appeal.
Handler has done one-on-one interviews with Leah Remini, Mario Lopez, Bill Bellamy and Janice Dickinson. Show also features a round table every night; rotating guests including Scott Baio, Dr. Drew Pinsky and Alexis Arquette trade lighthearted opinions about showbiz topics.
