Annual award recognizes individuals who have contributed to the advancement of Asian cinema.
Yang's wife and artistic partner, Kaili Peng, will accept the award.The 12th edition of the fest will also hold a special retrospective and seminar on the late filmmaker.
Yang directed eight critically acclaimed films from his debut "In Our Time" (1982) to his final work "Yiyi: A One and a Two" (2000).
Previous winners of the award include Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien and Hong Kong actor-producer Andy Lau.
Meanwhile, Sabrina Baracetti of Italy and Jean-Francois Rauger of France have been selected to receive the fest's Korean cinema award.
As head of the Udine Far East Film Festival, Baracetti has introduced more than 120 Korean pics to Italian and international audiences since the fest's inception in 1999, including many of the defining works of Korean cinema's modern-day renaissance. She has served as president of Udine's Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche since 1995.
Jean-Francois Rauger, head programmer at the Cinematheque Francaise in Paris, has curated three ambitious retrospectives of Korean cinema.The Korean cinema award recognizes figures who have been instrumental in the promotion and spread of Korean films overseas.
