Mick Jackson ("Live From Baghdad") is onboard to direct the project, which is set to premiere sometime in 2008. Casting is under way.
"The Memory Keeper's Daughter," by author Kim Edwards, was named 2006 Book of the Year by USA Today, and has spent 60 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list (including No. 1 for seven weeks).
Lifetime Entertainment prexy Susanne Daniels said she believed Jackson would bring a "keen eye" to the event movie.
Jaffe/Braunstein Films is producing "The Memory Keeper's Daughter," with Howard Braunstein and Michael Jaffe -- who were behind Lifetime's "Odd Girl Out" -- as exec producers. John Pielmeier ("Hitler: The Rise of Evil") wrote the script, adapted from Edwards' book.
"Memory Keeper's Daughter" revolves around a doctor who, in order to spare his wife heartache, tells her that their daughter -- who has Down's syndrome -- died at birth. He orders a nurse to put the girl in an institution; but instead, the nurse raises her.
Jackson's credits also include "The Bodyguard" and the telepic "Tuesdays With Morrie." which earned him a DGA Award.
