Argentine net taps program manager

Parodi replaces Parodi in effort to boost ratings

BUENOS AIRES -- Fourth-ranked Argentine broadcaster America TV has tapped Liliana Parodi programming manager in an effort to improve its ratings.

She replaces Juan Parodi, who left after two years of poor audience numbers.

Liliana Parodi, who is not related to her predecessor, takes on the task in addition to the same duties at associated cable news net America 24. In the early 2000s, she ran programming at America TV, helping to keep it at third in the rankings with prison series "Los Tumberos" and the still highly rated gossip show "Intrusos en el Espectaculo."

The changes come as the broadcaster's owners, including millionaire congressman Francisco De Narvaez, try to boost ratings and cut debt.

Among other proposals, they are considering buying or creating a production company to help boost revenue by exporting self-made content. In the pipeline this year are gamer "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" and womanizer telenovela "Lalola."
