Project, simply called "Samurai Girl," comes from scribe Luke McMullen ("Alias") and exec producer Bob Levy. ABC Studios and Alloy Entertainment are behind the pilot.
Drama revolves around a 19-year-old named Heaven who was the sole survivor of a plane crash when she was an infant. Adopted by a wealthy family, Heaven discovers her adoptive family has a dark secret -- and that she must channel her blood ancestors' samurai traditions to learn the truth.
Casting has begun on "Samurai Girl," which will shoot in the fall.
"We fell in love with this script," said ABC Family prexy Paul Lee. "It has such a great mix of mythology, action and romance."
ABC Studios also produces "Kyle XY" for the cabler.
"Working with ABC Family on 'Kyle XY,' we've developed the right approach for high-quality cable programming," said ABC Studios prexy Mark Pedowitz. "This new action-packed series continues that strategy, hopefully with the same success."
