Variety.com has hired Mike Jones in the newly created position of managing editor, film festivals.

Jones oversees Variety's film festival website and will supplement Variety's presence at fests worldwide. He makes his Variety debut at the upcoming Telluride and Toronto festivals.

Variety's film festival website will provide year-round coverage of the fest circuit. In addition to collecting all Variety news coverage, the site will include Jones' blog, The Circuit, as well as film trailers and tools designed to help navigate the fest calendar.

Jones was most recently editor at large for indieWire. He was also managing editor for Filmmaker magazine. As a screenwriter, he has worked on projects for Columbia Pictures, MGM/UA and HBO.
