Gilmore to chair Powell award

Nod, named in honor of one of Britain's most original and influential directors, is given to the best new British film at the fest.

This year, for the first time, the Powell jury will also be judging a new award for performance in a British movie.

Other jury members include British novelist Jonathan Coe, actors Natalie Press and Kate Dickie and Variety critic Jay Weissberg.

This year's fest opens Wednesday with David Mackenzie's "Hallam Foe." The lineup includes 11 British movies, which will be eligible either for the first feature or the performance awards, including Anand Tucker's "And When Did You Last See Your Father?," Anton Corbijn's "Control" and Gaelic pic "Seachd: The Inaccessible Pinnacle."
