While CBS and the show’s producers (CBS Par Television and ABC Studios) wouldn’t comment, “Minds” showrunner Ed Bernero confirmed the casting over the weekend on the Criminal Minds Fanatic blog. Details of the new character and when Mantegna will make his debut weren’t immediately available.
Mantegna is no stranger to the crime beat on CBS. He toplined the Eye’s “Joan of Arcadia” for two seasons, playing a cop in the family drama. Mantegna also starred in the Eye’s short-lived Supreme Court drama “First Monday” in 2002, and appeared in the hit CBS mini “The Last Don,” and its sequel.
Most recently, Mantegna appeared in USA network miniseries “The Starter Wife.”
Thesp’s casting comes after talks with feature thesp Harvey Keitel failed to come to fruition. Patinkin left “Minds” producers in the lurch last month with his unexpected decision to depart the skein.
