Fox dockets legal laffer 'Drop Dead'

Network picks up Berman's 'Diva'

Fox has picked up the script "Drop Dead Diva," a high-concept legal hour from Josh Berman ("CSI").

Deal includes a decent-sized penalty. Drama with comedic undertones revolves around an uninspired model-in-training who suddenly dies and finds her soul entering an overweight, less attractive female attorney.

"It's about deconstructing the beauty myth while discovering what's really important in life," Berman said.

Twentieth Century Fox TV, where Berman is under an overall deal, is behind the project.

Berman, who is a consulting producer on Fox's "Bones," spent six seasons on "CSI"; he also created the skeins "Killer Instinct" and "Vanished" for Fox.

New show marks a return to more comedic fare for Berman, who served as a story editor on the NBC single-cam comedy "M.Y.O.B." before moving to "CSI."

"This show brings me back to my comedic roots, and as a former lawyer, I look forward to exploring this arena," Berman said.
