The show premiered on the South African Broadcasting Corp. channel July 19. Beginning Thursday it will be replaced in the 7:30-8:30 p.m. slot by another reality show, Jay McGraw's "Renovate My Family." Pressed for clarification on what the "unforeseen circumstances" were, an SABC2 spokesman would say only that it "had encountered problems with the production" and would not elaborate. Early ratings figures indicated a respectable viewership of about 1.3 million-1.5 million.
The pubcaster had announced with much fanfare in June that it had "scooped" the internationally popular reality show.
"On the Lot" airs on Fox in the U.S. but has seen disappointing ratings.
