Project, tentatively titled "The Brothers Warner," has been written and produced by shingle prexy Cass Warner and Eddie Schmidt with help from the Intl. Documentary Assn. Schmidt's credits include "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" and the Oscar-nommed "Twist of Faith."
The filmmakers interviewed more than 30 people, including Dennis Hopper, Norman Lear, Morgan Spurlock and surviving members of the Warner family. They're in talks with distributors.
Cass Warner also authored the family's biography "Hollywood Be Thy Name" and notes that 2008 will mark the 85th anniversary of Warner Bros.' founding with Harry Warner at the helm, aided by brothers Jack, Sam and Albert. Eliza Steel ("Sing Now or Forever Hold Your Peace"), the great-granddaughter of Albert Warner, was associate producer of the project.
Warner's archival material includes letters, diaries, photos and exclusive audio interviews with prominent players such as Ronald Reagan.
Warner credits digital video and the growing popularity of the documentary form with making the film possible. "And since my grandfather was known for making films with a message, it seems only fitting to tell his and the other brothers' story in a documentary -- the medium where relevant films live on today," she said.
