French-Canadian helmer Jean-Marc Vallee is directing the GK Films project based on a script by Julian Fellowes.
Broadbent will play King William, Victoria’s uncle, while Richardson has been cast as the Duchess of Kent, Victoria’s mother. They join Emily Blunt as Vic-toria and Rupert Friend as her husband, Prince Albert.
In addition, Mark Strong (“Syriana”) has been cast as the devious Conroy.
Production is skedded to begin later this month in the U.K.
Broadbent is currently filming “Indiana Jones 4.” Richardson appears in Warner’s upcoming “Fred Claus.” Strong will next appear in “Stardust.”
Sarah Ferguson, the duchess of York, introduced King to the project, which he is producing with Scorsese, Tim Headington and Ferguson.
King, who produced “The Departed” with Scorsese as his director, launched his GK Films shingle this year but remains a partner in Initial Entertainment Group. He is set to produce several projects for Warner, including “Shantaram,” “Sasha’s Story: The Life and Death of a Russian Spy,” “Dark Shadows” and, at Warner Independent, “The Rum Diary.”
