Goldsman, WB fall for 'Small' tale

Weed Road plants Hague graphic novel

Warner Bros. and Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road Pictures has acquired screen rights to the Michael Hague graphic novel "In the Small," to be published later this year by Little, Brown.

Story concerns a strange explosion that leaves everything else in the world intact but shrinks all humans to six inches tall. The survivors are forced to transition to a new social order in which man is no longer at the top of the food chain -- and is confronted by a new and greater existential threat.

Hague illustrations have graced books from "The Hobbit" to "Good Night, Fairies."

As a writer, Goldsman has busied himself adapting "Angels & Demons," the "Da Vinci Code" sequel on which Tom Hanks and Ron Howard will reteam early next year. He's emerged as a prolific producer of such projects as the Will Smith starrers "Tonight He Comes" and "I Am Legend," as well as Warner Bros' "The Losers," for which Tim Story was just hired as director.
