Eye is developing "My Best Friend's Girl," a half-hour laffer from former "Friends" scribe Mike Sikowitz. Project -- which was set up at ABC two years ago -- explores how the relationship between two best buddies changes when one of them begins dating the other's ex-wife.
Sikowitz will write and exec produce the pilot, which will go forward if CBS can find the right cast. Scribe is exec producer-showrunner on "Unhitched," the Farrelly brothers-produced midseason laffer at Fox formerly known as "The Rules for Starting Over."
Meanwhile, A&E has signed off on the pilot for "Danny Fricke," a scripted cop show from Sony-based 25C Prods. about a strong female homicide detective working out of Los Angeles.
Production greenlight is contingent on casting, particularly of the lead, who "has to be sexy, smart and tough, and believable as a detective," said Tana Jamieson, senior VP of original drama programming for A&E.
Net has a number of other pilot scripts in development, most of which deal in some way with the criminal-justice system. Its plan is to ensure a good sampling of any new series by giving it the lead-in of a rerun episode of "CSI: Miami" or "The Sopranos," both of which are drawing sizable audiences to A&E.
The writer of "Danny Fricke" is Cynthia Cidre, who's also working on CBS' new fall series "Cane," starring Jimmy Smits. Cidre is a co-exec producer of "Danny Fricke" with Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly.
