Fresnadillo to direct 'Wednesday'

Massy Tadjedin script revolves around a desperate man who carjacks a young woman, setting off a high-speed car chase across Los Angeles.
Fresnadillo will begin lensing early next year, marking the first project into which Jacobson will go into production since ankling as prexy of the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group and signing an overall deal with DreamWorks.
Enrique Lopez Lavigne and Brad Simpson produce with Jacobson. Lavigne is Fresnadillo's producing partner; the duo worked together on horror sequel "28 Weeks Later," which Fresnadillo directed.
Paramount will handle worldwide distribution on "Wednesday."
Jacobson said the pic is more in the vein of "Dog Day Afternoon" or "Sugarland Express" than a CGI-driven actioner.
"It's not about blowing your mind with visual effects. It's the kind of movie that you don't get seeing made much these days, in that it's as much about the characters and the big ideas as it is about the chase and spectacle," Jacobson said.
At Disney, Jacobson met Fresnadillo when securing the English remake rights to his Spanish film "Intacto."
Tadjedin's previous credits include "Leo" and "The Jacket." She's currently working on "Voyeur" for Sony.
Lavigne has produced numerous Spanish films, including "Sex and Lucia" and "The Lovers From the North Pole."
Simpson's producing credits include "Far From Heaven" and "Boys Don't Cry," along with the upcoming "Gardner of Eden."
