Former owner Telefonica ousted chief exec Schouwenaar, as well as founder and creative director John de Mol, in December 2003. Now the Mediaset-led consortium that acquired Telefonica's 75% stake have asked Schouwenaar to lead the company once more, replacing Elia Rodriguez.
Schouwenaar is currently chair of the supervisory board at Talpa Media, a company owned by De Mol, who also is a member of the consortium, alongside Goldman Sachs.
The consortium is bidding to purchase the final 25% stake, and told shareholders at an extraordinary meeting on Monday that they have until 3 p.m. on Aug. 3 to tender their shares to the offer.
