Eye has made a put pilot commitment to the project, backing it up with a hefty penalty said to be close to $2 million. Sony Pictures Television is producing.
Project marks a quick comeback for Hodge, whose CW drama "Runaway" was burned off by the net this summer. It also continues CBS Entertainment prexy Nina Tassler's campaign to shake up the Eye's development slate and expand the net's lineup beyond its core procedural dramas.
"Kingdom" is set in the era of knights and castles. The male-centric pilot revolves around four average young men, one of whom discovers he's heir to the throne. Skein will explore how the new power changes the lives of the four friends, particularly the new King Lucas -- who'd rather drink and womanize than fulfill his new duties.
Sonnenfeld directed the pilot for and is exec producer of ABC's "Pushing Daisies," already anointed as one of the most promising new shows of the fall season. He recently inked a multiyear overall deal with Sony (Daily Variety, June 14).
Hodge, whose TV credits include "Tru Calling," is writing the feature script "Honeymoon."
Project was packaged by CAA.
