While it's hard for some to forget the 2004 incident in which the group's rented bus accidentally dumped raw sewage off a bridge onto a boatload of sightseers and the Chicago River below, the Dave Matthews Band has fought to make up for it by staying at the forefront of superstar groups working to help the ecosystem.

Their charity Bama Works has earned millions for the cause. They've been strong supporters of native energy and have calculated the carbon offset needed to balance out their nearly constant touring. DMB also took part in a program to recycle bikes around their home base of Charlottesville, VA, allowing them to be used as free public transportation.

The band is also counted among the members of the Reverb Organization, whose goal is to educate other musicians (and their fans) to promote environmental sustainability. They've also worked with Music Matters to help set up global warming campaigns.

Like Phish and Jerry Garcia before them, the group has pacted with Ben & Jerry's for two ice cream flavors, One Sweet Whirled and Magic Brownies, which support global warming relief.

And rest assured, the band took full responsibility for the 2004 accident, donating $100,000 towards restoring the river outside Chicago.
