Exec produced 'Return of the Soldier'

Producer Barry R. Cooper died June 30 in Los Angeles of complications stemming from liver disease.

In the late 70s, he sold his private surgical practice and to enter the entertainment business under the wing of producer Sam Spiegel.

He served as exec producer on the 1982 film "The Return of the Soldier" starring Julie Christie and Alan Bates and worked on "The Cabinet of Dr. Ramirez" starring Mikhail Baryshnikov.

He also produced a number of rock and roll shows, including Atlantic Records' 40th anniversary show featuring a Led Zeppelin reunion and the Rock and Blues inaugural ball for president George H.W. Bush.

For the last decade he had been developing projects with his friend and partner, director Monte Hellman.

He is survived by his wife, two children and his mother.
