Tentpole is the latest in a run of hits for DreamWorks, which Par owns. Duo were producing partners on "Transfomers" even before the purchase.
Paramount finished the weekend No. 1 in market share, with "Transformers" scoring a $155.4 million seven-day opening. It was DreamWorks' fourth straight film to open at No. 1 after "Norbit," "Blades of Glory" and "Disturbia."
As of Sunday, Paramount's domestic gross was $992.9 million. Studio crossed the $1 billion mark Monday, with "Transformers" making an additional $9.9 million.
The year will be Par's highest grossing since 1998, when domestic box office receipts reached $1.046 billion, a figure that Par expects to surpass by the end of the weekend.
In its second frame, "Transformers" will have to contend with the bow of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which opened Wednesday in 4,285 theaters, the largest number of locations ever after this summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," which opened on more than 4,300 theaters.
