Company was founded by his father TC Wang in 1969 and was expanded by Charles, who started his career as an assistant information officer with the Hong Kong Government Information Services. In its fledgling film unit, he helped promote post-war Hong Kong to overseas movie and television viewers through documentaries, docu-dramas and news reports.
From Hong Kong, Wang grew Salon to become the leading regional supplier of equipment and production logistics with offices in Malaysia, Thailand, Shanghai, Beijing and Manila. He is credited with introducing many key pieces of equipment, notably the Panavision camera and lens systems and the Chapman dolly, to Asia for the first time.
With his brother Fred, Wang provided a bridge between Hollywood and the Asian filmmaking scene.
His credits on both sides of the Pacific Ocean were include working on the shoot of "Mission: Impossible III" in Shanghai, "Double Impact" and "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story."
For his services to the film industry, spanning more than 40 years, Wang received the professional achievement award at the 25th Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony last year.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 29, at the College Chapel of Wang's alma mater, Chung Chi College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shatin.
