Produced by Regent Entertainment ("Margaret Cho: Assassin"), "Christmas Caper" will star Doherty as a Grinch-like thief who returns to her sleepy suburban hometown and literally tries to steal Christmas. April Blair, who's also working on an HBO comedy project with Gavin Polone, wrote the script.
Lensing begins this week, with David Winkler to direct. Paul Colichman, Jeffrey Schenck and Stephen P. Jarchow exec produce for Regency.
"Christmas Caper" is expected to air in late fall as part of ABC Family's annual "25 Days of Christmas" promotion, in which the cabler trots out a different holiday program each night for a month.
Regent Entertainment has experience producing holiday pics for ABC Family. Last year, the studio shot "Christmas Do-Over," which starred Jay Mohr and another alum of an Aaron Spelling 1990s sudsers -- ex-"Melrose Place" star Daphne Zuniga. Before that, it produced the Tom Arnold pic "Chasing Christmas" for the cabler.
