ABC News taps Malhotra

Exec had been 'Nightline' senior producer

ABC News has appointed Vinnie Malhotra exec producer of the weekend editions of "World News," replacing Chris Sheridan, who was named exec producer of ABCNews.com.

Malhotra had been a senior producer at "Nightline" since 2006; he had been a producer for "World News Tonight With Peter Jennings" for several years until Jennings' death from lung cancer in 2005.

Malhotra was the ABC News producer riding in the convoy when Bob Woodruff and cameraman Doug Vogt were hit by an improvised explosive device in Iraq in January 2006.

Malhotra was not injured and returned as a producer for "World News With Charles Gibson."

In addition to helming both weekend newscasts, Malhotra is responsible for ABCNews.com content during the weekends.
