Project marks Hickenlooper's follow-up to indie title "Factory Girl."
Based on Colin MacKinnon's novel of the same name, storyline revolves around an aging CIA officer who is assigned to the Middle East in the days preceding the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The CIA operative avoids the sorrow over the breakup of his marriage and his son's tragic death by becoming obsessed with the capture of Osama bin Laden. His hunt brings him within meters of Al Qaeda operative and lead 9/11 terrorist Mohammad Atta just days before the attack.
Hickenlooper brought the project to Traina, who in turn came to Rifkin-Eberts, where he's also producing "The Woody."
Hickenlooper's previous credits include docus "The Mayor of the Sunset Strip" and "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" plus feature "The Man From Elysian Fields." He recently exec produced with Cary Woods the docu "Ghosts of Cite Soleil," which ThinkFilm opens this week.
