Ben Ammar sparks a TWC title tangle

Weinsteins not searching for a CEO

When is a CEO not a CEO?

In the July 9 issue of Fortune magazine, Tim Arango reports that the Weinstein Co. board member Tarak Ben Ammar is asking for a CEO to oversee the company.

However, sources say that Ben Ammar got confused on the title and was actually asking for a replacement for Charles Layton, who held the title of exec VP, office of the chairman.

Bob and Harvey Weinstein are not searching for a CEO but have already been looking for a replacement for Layton.

While the Weinsteins were not available for comment, a TWC spokesman said, "We have frequent discussions with the board, but we do not meet every month. We are always looking for strong executive talent."

While the Fortune article reprises the Weinsteins' tough year at the box office, the magazine went to press before the strong $20 million opening for the Stephen King thriller "1408," which was released through MGM, and the boffo previews of Michael Moore's health care docu "Sicko," which Lionsgate will launch June 29.

The France-based Ben Ammar is the topper at Quinta Communications. His title: CEO.
