In addition to retaining more far-flung venues in WeHo and downtown, the fest footprint will spread south to the new Landmark theaters in West L.A. and be more robust on Westwood's streets.
"We took the opportunity this year to refine our ideas about what we can do in Westwood," says programming director Rachel Rosen. "And by 'refine' I mean 'expand.' "
Last year LAFF closed down Broxton Avenue for two days, but now it'll be a festlong deal. Broxton plays host to two bands daily, Live Earth Day (on Sunday) and Family Day (on June 30), as well as outdoor screenings and other events.
"I interpret the film festival in a very broad way," fest director Rich Raddon says of the eclectic array. "I like the idea that people come to one central place and have that community experience. We want people to know this is accessible to everyone -- not just people in the industry."
