Morse was most recently a senior producer on the weekend editions of "World News," but he spent several years as a senior producer on "Good Morning America," as well.
Morse replaces John Green, who was elevated to executive producer of special programming and development at ABC News.
Like the weekday editions of "GMA," the Saturday and Sunday shows trail NBC's "Today," but are well ahead of CBS' "Early Show."
Morse sees an opportunity to establish a beachhead on the weekends to help the weekday morning show in its battle against "Today."
"One point on the agenda is clear: we want to be the No. 1 rated morning show on the weekends," Morse said. "The quality of guests and the 'gets' are one element, but first and foremost storytelling makes the difference."
