Sydney festival gets FIAPF approval

June’s 55th edition will include $50,000 prize

The Sydney Film Festival has become the first Aussie event with a FIAPF-approved official competition.

June’s 55th edition will include a A$60,000 ($50,000) prize awarded to a cutting-edge film. Winner will be selected from 12 finalists by a jury of three international and two local industryites and handed out at a gala. The New South Wales government is allocating $1.5 million toward funding the prize.

“The whole notion of an award for audacious, creative filmmaking is something that I think reflects our city,” fest director Claire Stewart said Tuesday.
