'Truckers' drives record audiences

'Ice Road Truckers'

The debut of 'Ice Road Truckers' carved out record auds for the History Channel on Sunday.

Sunday night's debut of History Channel's "Ice Road Truckers," a reality series about men performing one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, harvested 3.4 million total viewers -- the best number ever racked up by a series episode in the network's 12-year history.

"Truckers" also scored big in History's two key adult demos, chalking up 2 million adults 25-54 and 1.8 million adults 18-49. These two numbers bested those of anything else the cabler has ever run, series or specials. History has commissioned nine more episodes of "Truckers."The series follows a group of long-haul truckers driving massive vehicles through subzero temperatures in the northernmost part of North America. The exec producer is Dolores Gavin for History Channel.
