The orgs have set a June 25 news conference at the SAG headquarters in Hollywood, where notables such as Jimmy Jean-Louis ("Heroes"), Nick Cannon (MTV's "Wild 'n Out"), Regina King ("Ray"), and Hill Harper ("CSI New York") will take public HIV tests.
The event's two days before National HIV Testing Day as part of a campaign to end the AIDS epidemic in Black America by 2012.
Others scheduled to participate include Gloria Reuben ("ER", "Life Support"), Michael Dorn ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), Howard Hesseman ("WKRP in Cincinnati"), Vanessa A. Williams ("Soul Food"), Cheryl Lee Ralph ("ER"), Tatyana Ali ("The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"), Kim Whitley (comedienne) and Phil Wilson, founder of Black AIDS Institute. The orgs noted that Black Americans are seven times more likely to die from AIDS than any other at-risk groups, that AIDS is the leading cause of death for black women between the ages of 25 and 34 and that Black Americans account for half of all new cases of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
