Brad Gann is writing the script, and Mayhem Pictures partners Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray are producing. That trio teamed on the Mark Wahlberg starrer "Invincible." Orly Adelson is also producing; Jordan Rush is exec producer.
The film will be distributed by 20th Century Fox through the joint venture Fox Walden.
Frank Gildea dropped out of college in 1981 to support his family, but rejoined his alma mater, College of the Redwoods, two decades later. By then, his son was attending the school and playing for the basketball squad. The elder Gildea was able to finish out his eligibility, joining his son on the squad that won the school's first conference championship in 27 years.
Gann also wrote and directed the indie film "Black Irish," and scripted the Sylvain White-directed "Static" for Columbia Pictures.
Mayhem, which has a first-look deal at Disney, has found a niche in sports fare. The banner's films include the baseball pic "The Rookie" and the hockey saga "Miracle." The Mayhem partners most recently set up a film based on the life of Penny Chenery, owner of Triple Crown-winning horse Secretariat, which is being written by "The Rookie" scribe Mike Rich for Disney.
